Old Overlook Cemetery

Both Old Overlook Cemetery and New Overlook Cemetery are located on Cozy Nook Road in East Concord, Vermont. Old Overlook Cemetery hold approximately 500 grave sites and is closed to any new burials.

The oldest stone in the cemetery is that of Andrew Hardy (1786 – 1821). He and his wife moved to Concord soon after the War of 1812.They were among the first settlers of Concord Corners. Mr. Hardy was the keep of the first tavern there.

Joseph Ball (1763 – 1838) was the first settler in Concord, coming here in 1788. He built the first grist mill in the town on Hall’s Brook. His son John was the first child born in Concord.

Ira Grant Jr. (1846 – 1913) was born in Concord. He enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 16, and served as a drummer boy. He was well known for his singing, and was considered one of the best drummers in Vermont. His half-brother John W. Grant (1830 – 1903) also served as a drummer boy in the Civil War. Their friend, Horacio Nichols (1840 – 1904) was a fifer in the Civil War. Ira’s drum still beats today as descendants carry on as the “Grant-Nichols Drum and Fife Corps”.

The last stone to be placed in the Old Overlook Cemetery in David Labonte (1955 – 1995).
